Doors close on pub that hoped to restore reputation from the past

A pub that began as a passion project for three friends from Dereham has closed its doors after only ten months of trading.
Kane Hooper, Ben Watkins and Louise Wolliter had big ambitions when they left their jobs to open The Rusty Tap on Norwich Street, Dereham, in April 2017.
Their goal was to restore the reputation the pub had when it was known as Cockers and buck the trend of declining pub businesses by creating a varied, rustic dining menu, along with a drinks selection that isn’t available elsewhere.
But on January 21 it was announced the pub would close down and the final day of trading was January 27, when they hosted a closing party.
In a farewell message on social media, the landlords hinted the burger selection may return, commenting: “If you wondering about our great burgers, they will continue. Keep your eyes open for Norfolk Gourmet Kitchen.”
