The latest trend in getting children to learn outdoors is beach school - and a tiny village school near Fakenham is blazing a trail.

Colkirk Primary Academy has been funded to run four beach schools this year by the Ogden Trust, a charity which promotes physics teaching.

For their first beach school, the children have been investigating air resistance at Wells-next-the-Sea.

Stephanie Northen, head of school, said: “We’re really lucky to be able to teach science in such a stunning place.

“It fires the children’s enthusiasm and makes their learning so much more memorable.”

The children will be having fun with shadows and sundials on their next beach school in June.

Beach schools have been praised nationwide for offering children fresh air, physical exercise, and the chance to make friends and learn about teamwork.

The school was recently praised by Ofsted for its pupils’ “outstanding” behaviour and development.
