Nearly 350 homes near Wells were left without power this afternoon after a combine harvester drove into over head power lines.

Four fire crews were called to the scene at New Farm, off Warham Road, near the Big Blue Sky shop just after 2.30pm in case a fire was caused in the field after the incident.

Power firm EDF Energy was then called to isolate the power so the driver could get out of the combine harvester.

The firm said power was restored to 196 customers by 5.15pm and engineers were working on site to complete repairs so that power could be restored to the remaining customers affected.

The fire crews were stood down at 4.45pm.
