Sheringham RNLI was called to help the couple on Sunday at around 2.30pm.

A spokesman said the power boat experienced intermittent engine failure and the lifeboat crew helped to accompany the boat to Wells where a handover was made to Wells RNLI.

He said: "The boat was towed from Sheringham to Cley before the engine was going again."

John Mitchell, Wells lifeboat press officer, said: "Wells all-weather lifeboat towed a motor cruiser into harbour after the vessel developed engine trouble at sea.

"The 37ft Janolian, with two people on board, was en route from the Humber to Lowestoft when she was forced to call UK Coastguard for assistance.

"Wells lifeboat launched at 4.38 pm and picked up the tow from Sheringham lifeboat, which answered the call for help because the cruiser was off Sheringham.

"As the tide was out, Wells lifeboat and her tow waited offshore until there was sufficient water in the harbour channel. At 7.52pm she began towing the vessel into the harbour and took her to the quay in the town where she was moored. No-one was hurt in the incident."
