A poll is to be held later this week to gauge the views of villagers in the Creakes about a controversial proposed windfarm.

Residents will be invited to answer the question: Do you support the proposed windfarm to be built on land between Stanhoe and South Creake?

The results will be presented to the development control board of King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council.

The poll will be held on Thursday, August 12, at North Creake Village Hall from 4pm to 9pm.

It is expected that the result will be declared at about 9.30pm the same evening.

The poll has been organised by the borough council on behalf of the campaign group Creakes Action for Protecting the Environment, which is strongly opposed to the proposal for six turbines, which would be up to 126m to the blade tip.

The business behind the scheme, Renewable Energy Systems, claims that the windfarm would be able to provide power for 8,000 homes and has pledged about 27,600 each year to the local community.

But campaigners complain the turbines would dominate and change the character of the landscape.

Concern about the potential for wild birds to collide with the turbines inspired protesters to dress up as pink footed geese at a public exhibition in April.

There are also fears about the cumulative impact of wind energy developments, with five wind turbines proposed between the neighbouring villages of Bagthorpe, Barmer and Syderstone and seven planned near Docking.
