The family of a Dereham man have today thanked people for their thoughts and prayers as he recovers in hospital after being thrown through a windscreen during a serious car crash.

Father of two young children Roly Le Roy, 25, who runs Roly's Repairs and Breakdowns on the Rash's Green Industrial Estate, is stable in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, following the collision on Wednesday.

He was driving a silver Vauxhall Nova on the B1110 at Wood Norton when the crash occurred involving a black BMW and a blue Ford Fiesta,

Mr Le Roy is being monitored closely and was in a controlled coma to rest his brain as scans are carried out. He has a fractured right arm and is due to have an operation to have a plate inserted.

His relatives are with him at the hospital and his father - also called Roly - said: 'Roly has vastly improved again from yesterday. Most of the tubes, electrics and oxygen mask have gone. There is a long way to go yet but we thank everyone for their continued prayers and positive thoughts. Prayers do work and are working.'

His father said he is likely to be in hospital for around two months.

Mr Le Roy was due to see former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in Gorleston on Friday night.

And when he was told about his crash, Tyson has sent him a voice message with a signed photograph.

Mr Le Roy was unconscious and was flown to hospital by the East Anglian Air Ambulance after the crash, which happened at about 4.20pm just north of the cross-roads with the Hindolveston and Fulmodeston roads.

Police said the BMW was being driven by a 57-year-old man, also from the local area, and it and Mr Le Roy's car were travelling towards Guist.

The Fiesta was heading in the opposite direction and was driven by a 19-year-old man.

The two other drivers suffered minor injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses and are keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash or the way the cars were driving before it happened.

They particularly asked to speak to the driver or occupants of a red or maroon-coloured saloon car seen travelling in the direction of Holt just before the collision.
