A dog walker has spoken about finding a “tiny”, newly-born common seal pup on a Norfolk beach.

Rumba, as he’s been named, was discovered by the rocks at Brancaster in May.

He weighed just 7kg, but he’s now recovering well at Sea Life Hunstanton Sanctuary.

Val Carpenter, who lives in Brancaster, said: “I was walking towards Titchwell with my partner and my dog. I saw something moving.

“It was clear that a particularly high tide had just left him there. His mum was nowhere to be seen.

“He was about 20ft from the sea by the rocks. I’d never seen a seal pup before so I could not say whether he was distressed or not, but something was clearly not right.

“He was tiny and when he flipped over, I could see the umbilical cord. I was surprised to see him.”

She called the National Trust which put her in touch with the sanctuary.
