The 19th annual Wighton scarecrow festival got off to an impressive start today with more than 60 'mawkins' on show.
Scarecrows included one of the new vicar, the Revd Brenda Stewart wearing her cassock, Harry and Meghan for the royal wedding, and Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.
One of the organisers, Suki Polson said: “We have had about 50 or 60 scarecrows or mawkins, which is the Norfolk word for them, on show. Tomorrow is the big day with the ‘live scarecrows’ and then the children’s competition - you bring the child and we provide the rest. It’s free entry and there will be prizes.”
The event runs over the whole May Bank Holiday weekend on the common opposite the Carpenters Arms.
The scarecrows have also returned to the village church, Wighton All Saints, this year. Refreshments are served over the weekend from 10am to 5pm in the village hall.
