There are not many people who could achieve running one marathon in a day, let alone two.

But that's the amazing achievement of Maree Limpus, who ran 53 miles in one day to raise money for the Norfolk Hospice Tapping House.

Ms Limpus ran the double marathon along the coast from Cromer to Snettisham and her feat was to mark 40 yers of the Norfolk coast being protected as an area of outstanding beauty (AONB). It also coincided with her 40th birthday.

Ms Limpus is a community officer for the Norfolk Coast Partnership which was set up in 1991 to promote Norfolk AONB.

The double marathon proved to be a complete success and she completed it in around eight and a half hours.

She said: “It felt great to get back to finish at the hospice, I was elated and there was a really nice welcoming committee there to welcome me back. The atmosphere was lovely. The West Norfolk mayor Kathy Mellish presented me with some flowers and I was treated to a hot bath, chocolate muffins and fish and chips which were perfect.”

Ms Limpus from Hindolveston, was straight back to work on Wednesday the day after her mammoth run.

She said her legs did ache and standing up and walking up stairs was really painful.

But she said she was very pleased with her achievement and added: “It feels very good to have done it. I'm really happy, I was nervous before I started.”

So far £750 has been raised for the hospice, but money is still pouring in, and it is hoped around £1,500 will be raised in total.

She can still be sponsored online at www.justgiving.com/NorfolkCoastRun or by calling 01328 850530
