A driver escaped serious injury after emergency crews freed him from an overturned car in Stiffkey this morning.

Fire and ambulance crews were called shortly after 10.30am to a one-vehicle accident on Cockthorpe Road.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “The vehicle had rolled over, but the driver was conscious and breathing. He was not physically trapped, but mechanically trapped as the door had bent and he was unable to get out.”

The Air Ambulance was also called, but was not required as the man did not require hospital treatment.
