Former professional footballers, celebrities and community heroes will be turning out for a charity team at a match in Fakenham tomorrow.
Ex-players Paul Konchesky and Marlon Harewood will be among the stars as well as the brothers Ryan and Rossi Jarvis, who are from Fakenham.
It will be the third charity event organised by City College Norwich student Harry Cottenden, 18, who founded the team, Help Delete Cancer FC, to take part. This year’s event will be held at Fakenham Town FC’s ground in aid of Macmillan.
The teenager said: “We started it in 2016 and did it for two other cancer charities the previous years.
“I always like to help people and I also like football. This is the biggest event yet and we’ve set a fundraisinhg target of £2,000.
“There will be two matches for Help Delete Cancer FC, against Macmillan FC at 1pm, and AFC Macmillan at 3pm.
“Other big names involved on the day will include Channel Four’s First Dates star Austin Ventour, who will be putting his boots on for Delete Cancer FC. There will also be music, bouncy castles and other attractions.”
Alex Walpole, former manager of Fakenham Town, will also be playing.
He said: “Footballers from Fakenham Town and Wroxham Town will be taking part. It would be great to see a good attendance as everything is going towards charity. Community heroes will include Chris Cracknell, Fakenham Town groundsman.”
Ryan Jarvis wrote himself into the Norwich City history books on April 19, 2003 when his appearance as substitute at Walsall meant that he was the youngest ever player to play for the first team, aged just 16 years and 282 days. He also became the club’s youngest goalscorer the following season with an 88th-minute goal in a 2–1 home defeat by Watford on November 15, 2003.
Paul Konchesky played for Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Fulham, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers, and Leicester City.
Marlon Harewood started his career at Nottingham Forest and played for West Ham United and then Aston Villa.
