Fakenham Town take an early break from Thurlow Nunn First Division action on Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon Town in the FA Cup.

Huntingdon play their football in the Premier Division of the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League and are one level above the Ghosts so it was one of the toughest draws that Wayne Anderson's men could have had in the extra preliminary round.

They will go to Jubilee Park, the home of the Cambridgeshire outfit, as clear underdogs but also knowing that they will have nothing to lose against their higher-ranked opponents.

Anderson said: 'We went to AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the FA Vase (last season, a 4-1 defeat) and gave a good account of ourselves even though they were always going to be stronger than us.

'Going into Saturday against Huntingdon they are a decent side who play at a good level of football and have given King's Lynn a run for their money in the past when I was playing there.

'They have a decent set-up there and they will be prepared right, and I'm hoping we will be prepared right too after the Dereham game.

'We will be in for training on Friday to work on one or two things then we will get on the coach on Saturday and hopefully be ready.

'If we can get a draw, and bring them back to Clipbush Park for a replay, that will be superb. It's the FA Cup so you're never going to win it but if you can get through a round or two it helps the club too.'

Winning a tie in the extra preliminary round earns each team £1,500 and that rises to £1,925 with a victory in the next stage, the preliminary round, which takes place at the end of August.

If Fakenham are successful against Huntingdon then there would be an enticing fixture on offer in the preliminary round.

They would be away to either Wisbech Town or be facing a local derby at rivals Swaffham Town.

Fakenham and Huntingdon both kicked off their respective league seasons last Saturday but had contrasting results.

Huntingdon travelled to Desborough Town and collected a 1-1 draw while the Ghosts welcomed Whitton United to Clipbush Park and were beaten 3-1. Robbie Harris opened the scoring with a header in the 20th minute from Stephen Harvey's cross.

But Whitton turned it around to lead 2-1 by half-time thanks to two goals from Chris Williams, and substitute Remell Davis added a third late on.

Fakenham's second match of the season came last night as they travelled to Dereham Town Reserves, at the same time as Huntingdon were hosting Holbeach United in the UCL. On Wednesday, Anderson's troops host Downham Town in the league.

In off-the pitch news, the Ghosts are running a coach for supporters wanting to travel to Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Places are still available, at a cost of £5, and can be booked by telephoning Lisa Mallett on 01328 855172 or 07775 445897.
