He's known as the Peter Pan of pop and one of Sir Cliff Richard's biggest fans is the Mayor of Fakenham Jayne Cubitt who is delighted that her idol is to be re-united with his original backing band The Shadows to celebrate his 50th anniversary in the music industry.

In fact 52-year-old Jayne's devotion to Sir Cliff is such that she has already booked her place for the concert at Birmingham in October next year.

She is delighted that Cliff and The Shadows are to join together for what is being billed as the “re-united for the very last time” concert and she can't wait for it to happen because she feels it will be a wonderful farewell event.

Cliff and The Shadows dominated the British music charts in the late 1950s and 1960s and notched up 19 number one hits between them.

Their hits included Move It, Living Doll, and Travellin' Light. The re-union tour will be the first time they have performed in concert in 20 years.

Initially formed as a backing band for Cliff Richard, The Shadows were originally called The Drifters until discovering there was already a US band of that name.

The Shadows also appeared with Cliff in several films including The Young Ones and Summer Holiday.

The group split up in 1968 to pursue individual careers. Later The Shadows, Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett, re-formed and toured during the 1970s and 1980s.

Mrs Cubitt's unbroken devotion to Cliff goes back to when she first saw him in a special gospel concert in Norwich Cathedral when she was 15 and since then she has been to numerous concerts. She has even spent a weekend in his company after winning a special prize draw held at one of his concerts.

“I have always been a fan of Cliff Richard and after I saw him at Norwich Cathedral, which I can remember as if it was yesterday, I was completely hooked, he is such a genuine guy and an all-round entertainer,” said the grandmother of seven.

She added : “Cliff has never been changed by fame and he remains the same really nice guy that he has always been and he has no airs ands graces. He once gave me a really manly hug and it was like hugging a really good friend.”

Alongside Jayne's loyal devotion is her collection of Cliff Richard memorabilia which overflows the rooms in her neat bungalow home on the town's North Park. You name it and it seems that Jayne has got it, books, T-shirts. concert programmes, videos, LPs, CDs, concert tickets, and taking pride of place are photographs of herself and Cliff.

Her family and friends have no difficulty in knowing what to give Jayne for birthdays and at Christmas they always get her something connected to Cliff Richard.

“I also collect teddy bears so I think my most prized souvenirs are the teddy bears issued to mark special milestone concerts,” she said.
