Take a trip down memory lane with our fabulous photographic celebration of East Anglian life through the decades. Today we take a nostalgic look back at Fakenham, a lovely market town situated on the River Wensum.
It is thought that the name Fakenham comes from the Saxon words for a fair place on a fair river - and this handsome, historic town nestled on the banks of the beautiful Wensum certainly remains as fair today as it did all those centuries ago.
Fakenham is well known for its market which dates back to 1250, selling agricultural products and cattle back in the 19th century.
Right in the heart of Norfolk, Fakenham has always bustled with industry, from factories and businesses to independent shops and a lively calendar of markets, festivals and fairs, rich in tradition and charm, and essential to the town's economy.
