A couple and their young son can enjoy Christmas and the new year in a new home in Wells thanks to an organisation helping local people who have been hit by rocketing property prices.

Homes for Wells has allocated its two-bedroom property in Freeman Street, Wells to Leon and Claire Moore.

Leon, who has lived all his life in Wells, works as an HGV driver and Claire has been working for the past seven years as a teaching assistant at Wells Primary School.

The couple had been searching for local affordable accommodation for many years without success and their previous property was cramped and unsuitable for bringing up a family.

Leon said: “No-one has ever offered us anything. The house is great and I can even watch the football matches along the Beach Road without leaving the comfort of my home!”

The HfW housing sub-committee is looking for properties in Wells that can be let at an affordable rent. For more information visit www.homesforwells.co.uk.

*HfW has got donations of £300 from the Wells & District Lions Club, £100 from a local resident and £672.27 in memory of the late Bernard Phillips, who was a great supporter of the organisation.
