Along with the tropical birds, visitors can also expect to see groups of pink-feathered children, as youngsters dressed as flamingos will get half-price admission.

Pensthorpe has 49 flamingos, almost twice as many as the 25 they had a year before. The flamingos now live in a purpose-built enclosure mimicking their native Spanish lagoons.

Deb Jordan, owner of the park, said: "Their elaborate courtship displays involve marching, head flagging, wing saluting and chattering, and they are real characters. This new event will celebrate these beautiful birds with lots of themed activities throughout the weekend."

The park will host flamingo trails and storytelling sessions, as well as face painting alongside the regular bird feeds and talks. Admission is £10.95 for adults and £9.95 for children not dressed as flamingos. The event runs from 10am to 5pm on both days.
