A Norfolk school has been handed a cheque of more than eleven thousand pounds following a campaign to restore their historic school bell.
The Parent Teacher Association, known as Friends of Fakenham Junior School, handed the cheque for £11,190.27 to the school council and head teacher Adam Mason on February 9.
The school’s Get Well Bell campaign was launched in 2016 with the goal of raising a total of £35,000 but local tradesman and ex-pupil, Darren Anthony, offered to take on the restoration work last year for just £23,000.
The school was £5,000 short when then work began over the summer holidays but Mr Anthony agreed to take on the work and cover the money until additional funds were raised.
The bell, which is over 100 years old, was restored by local businesses throughout the summer and could be heard ringing out across the town in time for the end of the summer holidays.
