Community groups in Fakenham offering learning opportunities can now get their message across to a wider public audience with the provision of a new glass fronted notice board.

The £2,200 board, which features a lockable window, has been installed outside the town's public library on Oak Street.

It was officially opened on Thursday by Andy Williams, deputy head of Fakenham High School and College which provided the funding.

Part of the school's special status is supporting community education and in that role it supports the work of Fakenham Learning Community and that of Pauline Chamberlain, the town's community co-ordinator.

“Through discussions with some of the town's other community groups, it became clear that there is lots going on in the town and surrounding villages but they needed somewhere for their learning-related events to be advertised to a wider public so we came up with this notice board idea,” said Mr Williams.

Fakenham mayor, Brenda Coldrick said she felt it was an excellent idea and it was in a good location outside the town's library. She hoped it would be well used containing lots of up-to-date events.

The idea for the board came from Ms Chamberlain and she said that all learning-related groups were welcome to use it. It was intended that it would be kept up-to-date so that it didn't become covered with out-dated events.

“It was my idea because I was very disappointed with the existing notice boards in town and being located outside the library it is in a place where the public will see and read the notices on show,” she said.

Any groups wishing to advertise their learning-related community events on the new board can contact the Fakenham library on 01328 862715.
