A grandmother has spoken of the shocking injuries she sustained after being involved in a collision with a bus.

Pauline Benson was involved in the accident while she was walking in Oak Street, Fakenham and immediately fell to the ground.

She was left with a black eye and injuries to her neck, shoulder, ribs, hips and pelvis after the incident on Saturday, December 2.

The 64-year-old, from Wells, said the collision “sent me flying into the bus stop post”.

She added: “People were just looking at me on the pavement.

“I didn’t know what had hit me.

“Eventually two men asked me if I was okay, and a lady from another bus came and called an ambulance and my daughter.

“I was lying on the ground for a few minutes but there were plenty of people around.”

Mrs Benson, who owns several cottages in the seaside town, was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).

Incredibly, the impact did not leave her with any broken bones.

However, she said: “My right knee is starting to collapse and I’ve got a really nasty injury on my right calf. My eye is starting to go black as well.

“I am really shaken up.”

The accident is also affecting Mrs Benson’s work. She said: “I’m on codeine for the pain which is making me drowsy - so I can’t drive. I can’t get around.”

Mrs Benson’s daughter, Victoria Catt, said: “I’m very keen to find out what happened. Mum has some memory but she didn’t see everything.

“There are apparently no witnesses, which is bizarre as it was so busy, and somehow no CCTV.

“I’m appalled that no-one stopped to help initially.”

She described her mother’s injuries as “minor but very painful”.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident, which took place at around 12.40pm.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said the bus was a single-decker.

Mrs Benson added that she was not surprised to have been hit.

She said: “It’s very narrow leading up to the place where I was.

“I was there with my little granddaughter last week and there were two inches between the bus and the pushchair.

“If that had been a child who was hit, they would be dead.”
