There was no cake or presents but people who visited the Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve and its state-of-the-art education centre helped celebrate its first birthday.

The first birthday of the centre, near Fakenham - officially opened by the Princess Royal - was marked with an Open Day on Sunday.

The special event was aimed at celebrating everything that has been achieved at the centre and reserve and included guided walks and various activities for children.

The managers at the centre are pleased that the target of around 12,000 visitors in the first year of operation has been reached and are optimistic that this can be built up.

There have been about 250 school children visiting the centre and again, it is hoped that this figure can be increased.

The visitor and education centre is open from 10am until 4pm Tuesday to Sunday. The reserve is open daily, except Mondays, from 8am to 6pm.

For more information on courses and activities available at the reserve and any special events contact education and marketing manager, Leanne Thomas, on 01328 856788.
