News that Lionel Richie will be performing in Norfolk has left hundreds of residents eager to get their hands on tickets but others have been left feeling apprehensive due to memories of last summer’s chaotic Tom Jones concert.
When the superstar performed at Holkham Estate in July last year, ticketholders were left angry and frustrated when they found themselves stuck on gridlocked roads for more than three hours and people with disabilities found access was extremely challenging.
The problems have not been forgotten by many concertgoers who have expressed concerns on social media that Lionel Richie’s performance at Holkham on June 24 could mean a repeat of the past.
However, Holkham Estate have emphasised that this year’s blockbuster event will be different.
“We would like to reassure any potential concertgoers that all issues with the management of last year’s Tom Jones concert have been reviewed,” said a spokesperson from Holkham Estate.
“A comprehensive internal evaluation was undertaken to address last year’s complaints and the Lionel Richie concert will be managed by a different promoter, Marshall Arts.
“Marshall Arts is familiar with hosting large scale outdoor events at Holkham, having managed the successful Elton John concert in 2009. The Holkham team will be fully involved in this year’s concert process.”
Lessons have also been learnt with regard to traffic management too and the issues have been fully addressed.
“There will be a full traffic management plan in place with multiple entry and exit points to the grounds for visitors to use,” they added.
“More information for concertgoers will be live on the Holkham website in due course.”
There has also been some mixed reactions to the price of tickets, which go on sale at 10am on February 2 for £75.
Some have complained that the price is too expensive but others have admitted they have paid a lot more to see concerts outside of Norfolk.
Holkham did not wish to comment on issues relating to the ticket price.
While Lionel Richie’s performance at Holkham will potentially be their biggest since Tom Jones, it will not be their first and those who attended the UB40 concert in August last year praised the estate for the organisation.
