Red-hot Robert Lambert has revealed how a sensible diet is one of the secrets to his success.

Norfolk boy Lambert, the skipper of King's Lynn Stars, takes his place in the Adrian Flux FIM British Speedway Grand Prix at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on Saturday – the biggest meeting of his career.

He made it as a wildcard following his golden moment in winning the British title in Manchester last month.

And, as one of the busiest riders in the sport, he's keeping a close eye on everything he eats during his travels, which involve trains, planes and automobiles.

'I eat properly when I can,' he told Speedway Star magazine.

'I have porridge and stuff but it's much more difficult during the season when you are travelling so much.

'Most places have good food now, but it's vital to have that discipline to have the good food and not the bad stuff. You've got to be strict with yourself.

'You have to think ahead and know where you are going to eat. Like in Sweden I know the airport has a good salad bar, so that's all okay.'

Lambert can't wait for his big moment in the Principality Stadium after getting a taster as reserve in the past.

He said: 'Cardiff is a great experience. It's definitely my favourite race and meeting of my career so far, even above the British final.

'To sit there with my kevlars on and be in the event was awesome. Just to be there as reserve was a great opportunity for me.

'I just remember waiting on the back straight with all the lights off waiting to be introduced to the crowd. It was like nothing I'd done before and then I was announced first because I was a reserve.

'The noise just hits you like nothing else and there were just Union Jacks as far as the eye could see. It gives me goosebumps now just thinking of it.

'It's going to be amazing to do that again and be in the meeting proper. I'll give it all I've got.'

Lambert heads to Cardiff in red-hot form after taking top spot in Speedway European Championship round two in Gustrow on Saturday.

The 20-year-old returns to the King's Lynn line-up on Monday when the Stars take on the Poole Pirates at the Adrian Flux Arena (7.30pm).
