A man who stole a large quantity of cash from a diner in Wells has been committed to crown court for sentencing.

Anthony Millward, 54, of Clarence Park Road, Bournemouth, appeared at Norwich magistrates' court on Tuesday, July 2.

He admitted one count of theft and two counts of assault following an incident at K's on The Quay on Sunday, June 30. No date for sentencing has been fixed.

Police were called to the diner at around 4.45pm, and a large quantity of cash was stolen from the premises.

A man was arrested at the scene.

As reported, the business was severely damaged in the 2013 floods.

During the tidal surge on December 5, which was the biggest in Wells' history, floodwaters smashed through the back doors destroying seven fridges and freezers.

The floor also had to be replaced and all the paperwork in the office was ruined.
