Universal Pictures uploaded the trailer to their official YouTube channel, prompting a number of fans to express how emotional they are about the arrival of The Grand Finale.

Taking to the comments, one person said: "This made me weep," adding that they will miss Maggie Smith while watching the movie.

Others on YouTube were quick to welcome the film, with one person writing: "So excited."

Responding to another user on the forum, the viewer said: "The fact that nobody else is wearing hats indicates that Robert and Cora are returning, rather than everyone leaving.

"I reckon it might be a situation in which Harold has lost everything, Robert and Cora go to pick him up, but Downton is safe due to some kind of wise investment?"

Another person wrote: "Very proud that, by the end of the series, the community has successfully figured out the plot of the finale by clocking that some characters weren't wearing hats."

The movie will come to theatres on September 12 and will be the first film since the sad passing of Dame Maggie Smith.
