A funeral directors has formed a new group for those who have lost someone close to them after noticing a rise in the need for practical support for bereaved people.
Gowards Funeral Directors, based in Fakenham, has created the Dandelion Circle of Friends to provide a monthly meeting place for bereaved people to attend.
The group will offer practical assistance with household tasks as well as emotional support and advice on dealing with loss.
Ideas can also be put forward at meetings for skills that those attending would like to learn.
Heather Goward, of Gowards Funeral Services, said: “As a long established funeral directors in the town and having looked after and supported many local families we have seen firsthand an increase in the need for practical help, advice and support as well as the emotional side of bereavement.
“People losing a long-term partner or loved one often struggle with the day to day tasks that the other person used to attend to.
“It is our aim to be that source of practical help as well as providing an opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends.”
The group had its first meeting on Wednesday, February 27 and Ms Goward added that it “was supported by a small number of people and all those attending had an enjoyable first morning.”
The name dandelion was chosen because of its association with time, as well as birth, death and the fragility of life.
Meetings take place at Café Nelson, Langham Glass, Greenway Lane, Fakenham and are open to everyone, whether recently or long-term bereaved.
They are free to attend, with free car parking and refreshments included and are held from 10am until 11.30am.
The date of the next meeting is March 27. Anyone wishing to get more information can contact Heather or Paul on 01328 862686.
