A sensory garden has been officially opened in the grounds of the Wells Road site, after a couple of weeks' work led by joint chairman of the friends, Michael Walsh.

The group contributed £2,000 from their own fundraising towards the project, and secured a further £1,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.

Mary Dolan, headteacher, said: "The ideal of the garden is a place of reflection, peace and relaxation. Children will use it at playtimes and some lessons will also take place in it.

"The children helped to plant the four beds which are themed for colour, structure, smell and touch. There are also pots with plants that can be eaten. There is also a solar-powered water feature and the children have made wind chimes."
