Aldiss is cutting prices by up to 70pc across its entire range.

The Fakenham-based home furnisher wants to clear its warehouse for a major refit.

It will be closing for a week from tomorrow, so staff can mark down an estimated 40,000 lines.

“With our contractors we have devised a plan but it’s dependant on a number of factors, said Aldiss managing director Paul Clifford.

“We have to release huge areas for them to complete the necessary works. To create the space, we have to move stock. With the stores already full, we have no other option but to sell it.

“With the weather changing and our busiest season around the corner it has to be now. Our autumn and winter stocks are already ordered and on their way. We have a very small window of opportunity and that is now.”

Aldiss’s two stores in Oxborough Lane, Fakenham and Hall Road, Norwich, will close for a week at 5.30pm tomorrow.

Staff will the work around the clock re-pricing stock ready for the sale. Aldiss will re-open at 10am on Friday, September 18.

“When we do reopen, the stores might not appear as our regular customers have become used to,” said Mr Clifford. “These changes are necessary as we accommodate as much of our warehouse stock onto our sales floors as possible.”

Aldiss needs to upgrade its warehouse to help it cope with the increasing amount of goods it sells online.

Its buying policy of going direct to suppliers, to cut costs to customers, also means stock levels are high and space is at a premium.
