A handyman scheme doing jobs for the over 65s in north Norfolk - and helping to keep them safe in their homes - is calling for more volunteers.

Ben's Workforce is run by The Benjamin Foundation with the backing of Norfolk County Council.

Since launching in May this year, it has helped more than 125 people with small maintenance, household repair and gardening jobs.

The aim of the service is to enable people to retain their independence by living at home for longer.

Workforce co-ordinator Jamie Brown said: 'Our customers tell us that the service we provide is very valued and makes a big difference to their daily lives.

'In order to keep operating we need to recruit more volunteers. Between 10 and 20 jobs are currently carried out each week, but the target is to increase this to 40 or 50, so we're looking for as many potential volunteers to get in touch with us. It's a hugely rewarding scheme to be involved with.'

A range of household tasks are carried out by the team, from putting up shelves to fixing dripping taps, fitting access ramps to decorating, plus garden jobs like cutting lawns and trimming hedges.

The service is available across all areas of North Norfolk, including Sheringham, Holt, Cromer, Aylsham, North Walsham, Happisburgh, Hoveton, Fakenham, Briston, Cley and Blakeney. Everyone in Ben's Workforce is skilled to at least a basic level, is friendly and DBS checked.

Anyone who is skilled in basic DIY or gardening, and has some spare time during the week, is being urged to contact Ben's Workforce on 01263 826 854 or bensworkforce@benjaminfoundation.co.uk to find out more about the opportunity.
