A nuisance neighbour who played loud music with profane lyrics from a speaker out of his open window has been left with a total bill of £4,250 after being prosecuted.

John Noon, of Northfield Waye, Wells, was served with a noise abatement notice in 2016, but a North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) officer witnessed a breach of the notice in June 2017.

In January, Noon pleaded not guilty to breaching the notice, but he failed to show at the hearing at King’s Lynn magistrates’ court on May 2.

He was found guilty in his absence of breaching the notice and was fined £750, ordered to pay costs of £3,000, and must pay compensation to the complainant of £500. The complainant suffered with lack of sleep and had become irritable.

Hilary Cox, NNDC portfolio holder for the environment, said: “Everyone deserves to be able to live in peace without suffering from anti-social behaviour.”
