A community hospital run by local people opened its doors yesterday to show the range of services on offer two years after reopening and what plans it has for the future.
A community hospital run by local people opened its doors yesterday to show the range of services on offer two years after reopening and what plans it has for the future.
Wells Community Hospital is run as a social enterprise company and is encouraging more people to be become members and have a say in what happens there.
And as many other community hospitals have faced the axe, it hopes, in the next 12 to 18 months, to open a new 26 in patient unit.
On show was everything from NHS services available in the north Norfolk coastal town, to private facilities as well as other services available in the community.
Louise Bennett, matron at the hospital, said: “We want to inform the public about what the hospital is doing and what support services there are in the community to help them.
“We are quite unique because there are not many social enterprises doing this sort of work.
“The benefits are less bureaucracy, more autonomy to work and, being a small team, we can be flexible and the whole team is involved in decision making.”
The hospital is encouraging people to become members who would get to vote and are kept up to date on all decisions.
