A north Norfolk natural park is launching a new series of behind the scenes events for nature lovers, including night-time bat walks and sunrise strolls.
Pensthorpe Natural Park, near Fakenham, has announced a new programme of expert-led events aimed at wildlife enthusiasts, which will touch on the history of the habitats they focus on along with the species that live there.
The 700-acre park will offer Springwatch-style night-time bat and moth tours, as well as chances to listen to birdsong as the sun rises, and get to know the park’s residents, including butterflies
Owner Deb Jordan, said the events were intended to “charm and inspire” visitors.
The series will be hosted by nature experts from the park, included the head gardener and reserve manager, and reveal trade secrets of life behind the scenes.
Mrs Jordan said: “These events will lift the lid on some of the wonders of the natural world.
“They are intended to charm and inspire our visitors whilst demonstrating some of the special wildlife and habitats we have here in our unique Wensum Valley location.”
The series will begin on Friday, April 12, with the Four Gardens spring walk, with Pensthorpe’s head gardener. The event will take nature lovers around four of the park’s contrasting gardens, with particular focus on spring displays, and include tea and cake.
The series will also include a dawn chorus walk, to view the sunrise across the park’s lakes and enjoy the dawn chorus, followed by breakfast.
There are habitat, summer gardens, and wildflower meadow events, which include lunch or dinner, as well as butterfly and pond life discovery walks.
The series of events runs on into the late summer and into autumn, with a guided tour of the Millennium Garden and a creatures of the night walk, in August, followed by a sunrise trip on the Pensthorpe exploerer - a specially designed Land Rover and trailer, in early September.
And as the nights begin to draw in, you can also enjoy autumnal garden tours, farm walks, and a wintery walk around the park in November.
Pensthorpe was first opened in 1988 as a waterfowl and wetland park, and has grown into a popular Norfolk visitor attraction.
