A group working to preserve a north Norfolk Anglo-Saxon church is hosting a talk from a noted religious writer.

The Friends of All Saints Waterden will welcome Peter Stanford to the church for a lecture on pilgrimage on Sunday, July 29.

Lucy Hodges, secretary of the Friends group, said: “Mr Stanford is a celebrated writer, journalist, broadcaster and biographer, and has written over the last 35 years on religion and the challenges of faith and belief.”

She added: “In his 2010 book The Extra Mile: A 21st century Pilgrimage, in which he visited as a pilgrim some of the most ancient religious sites in Britain, he talks movingly about the silence and mystery of All Saints’ Waterden.

“In this talk he will expand on the topic of pilgrimage.”

The evening will begin at 6pm, with wine, soft drinks, and nibbles served.

Entry free but donations to the church are welcome.

Mr Stanford will also be signing copies of his book.
