Moves are underway to site a Community Public Access Defibrillator (CPAD) in Sculthorpe, near Fakenham.
The parish council has started a project to buy and find a suitable location for the machine which is vital in cases of cardiac arrest.
A defibrillator, or AED, tells the rescuer what to do if the machine finds an abnormal heart rhythm.
It is hoped that the AED will be placed in a locked cupboard and will be accessible by ringing the ambulance service in order to obtain the code for the lock.
The parish council is hoping to secure funding which will buy the most advanced AED available to give the best chance of survival for a patient.
Training sessions will be open to anyone living or visiting the village to familiarise themselves with what to do in a life threatening cardiac arrest situation.
