Members of a police football team who were thrashed in a game against Walsingham youngsters earlier in the year are hoping to redeem themselves in a re-match.

Officers from the Wells Neighbourhood Policing Team were reminded their footwork is better served on the local beat rather than on the pitch after they were beaten 9-0.

This time around officers are hoping they will not get beaten quite so badly when they take on a group of youngsters as part of the Walsingham Fun Day next month.

The event, on Sunday, November 15, has been organised by the young people of Walsingham under the CATS (Community Action Through Sports) project.

The project is supported by the Wells policing team, Wells Area Partnership, and youth service and community volunteers, and aims to help young people be proactive in the community.

The event will take place at Walsingham Recreation Ground between 12pm and 4pm with the football re-match kicking off at 1pm.

Offering attractions for all ages the event will include a bouncy castle, barbeque, licensed bar and much more.

Police Community Support Officer Becky Taylor, from Wells NPT, said: “The last match was really well supported by local people and we hope the turn out for the re-match will be just as good.

“Sport is a great way for us to engage with young people in the area and this time we aim not to be beaten so badly.”
