Inspectors have praised the atmosphere at a North Norfolk primary school which gave the feeling of an “extended family.”

Walsingham Primary School was singled out by Ofsted inspectors for its strong curriculum, good teaching and progress made by pupils.

They saw it as a “good school where pupils behave well and are considerate and thoughtful”.

Praising the school's atmosphere, they said it gave it a feeling of being an “extended family”.

Inspectors also found there was a “strong sense of belonging” among its 50 pupils.

Head Angela Lee commented : “We are thrilled with this report, which recognises the unique atmosphere we enjoy at our school. Ours is a small school where all of our pupils and staff know one another and provide strong care and support to each other.”

Mrs Lee said the school staff were proud of the good progress made by pupils.

“We are pleased that Ofsted has recognised the confidence and self-esteem that develops in our pupils during their time at the school.”

She added : “I would like to thank staff, pupils, parents for their continued commitment and hard work in making our school a success.”

Ofsted judged the school as good in each of the eight inspected categories.

They pointed out that results in 2007 showed that Year 6 achieved above average results and noted results were “indicative of good performance when compared to pupils' prior attainment.”

Inspectors also highlighted strengths in pupils' personal development, teaching and learning and the care, guidance and support offered to pupils.

They also said that the governors maintain good oversight of the school's work and ensure that it is working well to serve its local community.
