Sporting commitment and achievements of youngsters at a Norfolk high school have been celebrated at an awards evening.
Alderman Peel High School (APHS) in Wells held its annual Celebration of Sport awards on Thursday March 14.
The evening commenced with a tap-dance performance by sisters Hazel, Iris, Amy and Eve Harmer, before five of the school’s Sports Young Ambassadors took to the stage for the opening address with a theme of “mission possible”.
Guest of honour and triathlete Kimberley Morrison then took to the stage and told a packed audience about how she underwent complex heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital at the age of three, before becoming the Ironman 70.3 champion in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2016.
She also became the second fastest woman on record over a distance of 100 miles.
And during the evening she discussed her next project - taking on the Land’s End to John O’Groats bike ride with the intention of breaking the world record.
Representatives from the school’s physical education department thanked everyone who was involved with the evening, including a number of local sponsors and APHS’s leadership team and governors.
A spokesperson added: “They understand our subject and recognise the importance that PE and Sport has on the lives of young people.
“Fortunately PE here is considered to be on a level playing field alongside other subjects and this certainly helps to make a number of our sporting achievements possible.”
Main award winning students received a silver salver, while others received a sports badge and prism. All nominees for the evening received a certificate.
During the day, 24 pupils were put through their paces in a coaching session from Ms Morrison and APHS swimming coach Charlotte Long.
