Children at Little Snoring Primary School have been thinking of their less fortunate counterparts overseas by filling shoe boxes with pocket-money gifts.

The filled boxes will be sent to children in Romania who live in deprived area and orphanages.

Head Richard Lord said ; “We thought it would be a good idea for the pupils to see that Christmas is not just about receiving presents but also a time for giving and thinking about others less fortunate than themselves.”

Three pupils from the school, accompanied by their mothers, took the shoeboxes to the Norfolk showground where a huge lorry was waiting. Amid balloons and flapping flags the children carried the shoeboxes into the lorry and they were stacked from floor to ceiling ready for the long journey across Europe to Romania.

As well as giving presents to poor families and orphans, the appeal has provided learning opportunities for the pupils at Little Snoring school.

“My two sons have spent a lot of time looking at maps to Romania”, said one mother.

Another mother commented : “My daughter was moved by the poor children in the pictures on the website.”

Nicola Pope, of The Friends of Little Snoring School, said : “Load the Lorry is a really worthwhile appeal and we hope to take part again next year.”
