A height restriction has been removed from a popular car park in Fakenham to allow larger vehicles such as buses and coaches to park closer to the town centre.

The removal of the restriction is part of a larger redevelopment plan for Highfield Road car park, after a proposal to sell it was overturned during a council cabinet meeting.

Town Mayor George Acheson has pushed for the barriers to be removed and said he is delighted by the news and hopes it will increase trade.

A major part of that increase could come from the Thursford Christmas Spectacular, which starts this week and is expected to attract over 2,000 coaches to Thursford, near Fakenham.

A spokesperson for Thursford Collection said: “I expect it could have a huge impact on Fakenham as it will allow the coaches that are visiting us from around the county to stop there and people will be able to spend their money in the town.”
