Thousands of people have been snapping up tickets to watch Sir Elton John perform in Norfolk next year.

Tickets to see the rock megastar at Holkham Hall in June went on sale at 9am today and concert promoter Marshall Arts said tickets were selling “incredibly well.”

Ben Martin, of Marshall Arts, said: “At 9am today there were queues of people on the phones wanting to buy tickets. We are seeing a large amount of interest, with many people seeing the tickets as a great late Christmas present.”

He said Marshall Arts never reveals exact details of ticket sales but said thousands of tickets had already been sold.

Up to 16,000 fans will be able to watch Sir Elton perform his hits from the past four decades in the open air picnic-style concert on Sunday, June 14 on the cricket ground in front of the historic hall near Wells.

The Norfolk show is only Sir Elton's second 2009 concert announced so far in Britain.

Sir Elton, who has sold more than 250 million records with hits including Are You Ready For Love and Your Song, is currently completing a 2008 UK tour. He will be performing in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and the USA next year before he arrives in Norfolk.

More than 22,000 fans filled Norwich City's Carrow Road stadium to watch the performer on stage in 2005.

Tickets for the Holkham show cost £60.
