The programme for the event, from August 2 until August 10 has now been drawn up and there are plenty of opportunities for sponsorship of a colourful variety of events.

The carnival has developed over the years into one of the biggest events of its kind in the region and certainly one of the most successful.

Carnival chairman Patrick Weston says a major part of the event's success has been the unstinting and continued generous support of Wells businesses in Wells. This has been in a variety of forms, from sponsorship and advertising, to funding particular events or simply putting up with a degree of noise and disruption during the week.

“We really appreciate this support and realise how important it is to the carnival and its continued success,” he said

Forms have been sent out to a variety of organisations and businesses within the town and these should be completed and returned by tomorrow's deadline. Mr Weston said : “To make a success of Wells Carnival week requires extensive sponsorship so that as many people as possible are catered for and to ensure that we offer a great week's entertainment. The carnival attracts excellent publicity and extensive press and radio coverage in the run up and during carnival week”.

He explained that there are lots of ways local businesses and individuals can contribute to the success of the event. These include sponsoring an event outright and sponsorships are awarded on a first come first served basis.

People can make a contribution to sponsoring an event and there are even opportunities for business And carnival website links at a rate of £30 per year. Prizes are always required for the various raffles held during carnival week .
