Section of Norfolk Coast Path to close for eight weeks

A section of the Norfolk Coast Path between Holkham and Wells will be temporarily closed for surface improvements, costing £201,600.
The two-mile stretch will shut for eight weeks to upgrade the surface, remove a kissing gate and improve access for disabled people, pushchairs and cyclists.
Work will start on November 25 and an alternative route will be clearly signed. Much of the alternative route will run through the Holkham estate and on quieter local roads. The diversion route will run from The Quay, Wells-next-the-Sea, to the northern end of Lady Anne's Drive, south along Staithe Street, along High Street to Church Street, onto local footpaths, then on permissive paths through the Holkham estate.
Norfolk County Council's community and environmental services department and contractors will carry out the work.
The scheme is externally funded by Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) following a successful application from the county council's environment team.
