Fakenham Town stalwart Neil Jarvis is to take temporary charge of the Ghosts following the departure of Wayne Anderson.

Neil Jarvis will lead Fakenham Town out at Carrow Road in the Norfolk Senior Cup final next month after being appointed caretaker manager – but he'd rather not.

Jarvis will take charge of the Ghosts' final three games this season after it was announced late on Tuesday evening that Wayne Anderson had left the club with immediate effect.

However, the 52-year-old, who was Anderson's number two at Clipbush Park, feels Anderson should have been given the chance to finish the season with Fakenham and that personal differences had interfered.

'Wayne deserves to be there and it's just sad that it has come to this,' said Jarvis. 'It's been a personal thing between the chairman (Andrew Jarvis) and the manager and it has all just escalated. I think it's totally wrong and it's disappointing that the problem couldn't be thrashed out. No one is bigger than the club and it feels like personal differences have been put first.'

Fakenham head to Wivenhoe on Saturday before finishing their league programme at home to Walsham-le-Willows the following weekend. But it is that Norfolk Senior Cup final date against King's Lynn on Monday, May 22, that has been on everyone's mind, although recent events have tempered the excitement for many members of the squad.

'The players are really disappointed and there's a sense of getting the games out the way,' said Jarvis. 'We were really looking forward to it but unfortunately everyone feels a bit flat now. The bulk of that squad has been with Wayne for a number of years and they will want to win it for him.'

Jarvis believes that only now will Anderson's hard work around the club be truly appreciated.

'I've known Wayne for a very long time and he's the most hardworking manager that I've ever come across,' he said. 'He will be a big loss to the club.'

Fakenham released a statement on Wednesday morning announcing Jarvis taking temporary charge whilst also inviting applicants for the role of first team manager for next season. Anyone wishing to apply should email vice-chairman Matt Hagon at matthagon@fakenhamtownfc.co.uk with a covering letter by Wednesday, May 3.
