Three businesses in the Fakenham area have been honoured among the brightest names in tourism in Norfolk.

Pensthorpe - the home of the BBC Springwatch series - the Garden House, Cranmer Country Cottages and Bircham Mill were among those named at the EDP Tourism in Norfolk Awards on Friday night.

This year there were 15 categories for companies and individuals, who are part of East Anglia's £700m tourism industry.

The Garden House won the best self catering establishment award, Pensthorpe picked up the gong in the Berry Savory Best Norfolk Attraction Award (annual visitor numbers over 60,000) and Bircham Mill won the under 60,000 visitor numbers catetgory.

The awards evening, which took place at Holiday Inn Norwich North, included a champagne reception and three-course meal for all those who were shortlisted.

Peter Waters, editor of the EDP, sister paper of the Times, said: “It's been a great year for tourism, in no small part thanks to people deciding to have their holidays closer to home.

“The main reason they chose to do that is because this part of the country has such a fantastic array of visitor attractions, quality accommodation and beautiful countryside and coast, and it's these things that are reflected and highlighted in the EDP's annual tourism awards.”

Michael Timewell, chairman of Norfolk Tourism and the awards partner, said: “The Tourism in Norfolk Awards is the perfect way to showcase the excellence of the tourism industry in Norfolk.

“There can only be one winner in each category, but we should congratulate all who have entered the awards this year and those who work in tourism for their commitment to this most important of all Norfolk's industries.”
