Gates open at 9.30am on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4, when more than 50 specially-invited stalls will be on the site.

Organiser Colin De Chair said: “We’ve got selected people who we hope are going to bring a lot of good stuff.

“It’s rather like a stately car boot, except it’s at a racecourse, not a stately home. We’ve got a lot of people from Cambridge, London, all over the place - and a lot of Norfolk too.”

Mr De Chair, from Wood Dalling, near Fakenham, said proceeds from the event would go to the Army Benevolent Fund.

“We are running this event to raise money for soldiers, ex-soldiers, their families and widows in need, of which there are many not only from recent conflicts, but from the Second World war as well,” he said.

“We are hoping to raise over £10,000, we have already booked nearly three quarters of the pitches available, and bookings are coming in thick and fast.

“David Hunter, chief executive of Fakenham Racecourse, has been most kind and helpful in providing the venue, and we have a fine body of volantary helpers.”

Food and drink will be available on the day. Vaulation expert Charles Bingham-Newland will be on hand, while Sgt Rose Jewell and her team of army cadets will be taking care of car parking.
