A much simpler version of rugby that started out as a summer sport in Fakenham has proved so popular it’s continuing under floodlights into the winter.

The Walking Rugby group in the north Norfolk town typically comprises about 40pc ladies and 60pc men, but that can vary.

A group spokesman said: "This is a fun team game that is accessible to people of all ages; the group has 88pc of its members over 50 and several much older.

You may also want to watch:

"It is attractive to both ex-players and those who are new to the game.

"The aim is to participate, compete and most importantly, for players to enjoy themselves."

As the name suggests, players must walk, not run, but it can still be played at a good pace.

The Walking Rugby Group meets every Wednesday at Fakenham Rugby Club with the first session free. Newcomers are welcome, from 6.50pm to 8pm.
