Scores of dog lovers and their two-legged friends flocked to a field in Wells-next-the-Sea for a day of fun and fundraising for a very worthy cause.

The dog show and fun day was in aid of the Wells Community Hospital Trust at Wells Football Ground, and saw around 1,500 people enjoy stalls, live music, dog games, demonstrations and classes.

Samantha Taylor, the hospital’s general manager, said she was thrilled with the turn-out at the event, which was being held for the first time at the ground after previously been at Creake Abbey.

She said: “This is the biggest fundraising event that we have throughout the year. The hospital gets no core funding from the NHS so that’s why we do fundraisers throughout the year.

“We’ve been really lucky with the weather and we’re please to see so many people support it.”

Nelson’s Shantymen were among the on-stage entertainers, and the Iceni Flyball Club was also there introducing people, and dogs, to the activity - a kind of canine football.
