A Wells school has been singled out with a national award for a significant improvement in its GCSE results.Alderman Peel High School joined a list of 633 specialist schools and academies nationally who have seen a jump in their performance at GCSE, and were recognised by The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) at an awards ceremony in London held on Tuesday.

Alderman Peel High School joined a list of 633 specialist schools and academies nationally who have seen a jump in their performance at GCSE, and were recognised by The Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) at an awards ceremony in London held on Tuesday.
Jon Platten, headteacher of Alderman Peel attended the event after his school saw a 22pc rise in English and Maths attainment between 2006 and 2009.
He said: “It is great to have national recognition for our coastal community. On a personal note, the event was something of a 'podium finish' to my time as headteacher at our specialist sports college."
Chris Montacute, strategic director of performance at partnership networks at SSAT, said: “Congratulations to these specialist schools and academies, which are improving GCSE results and transforming the lives of their students.”
