Ghosts’ manager Wayne Anderson was convinced the two-week gap after their encouraging display against promotion certainties Gorleston cost his side Saturday’s game.
“We had been expecting a game to keep us rolling. A two-week break didn’t help us.”
Poor turn-outs for training have not helped, and that is something Anderson will remedy next season, writes John Cushion.
Players have had work commitments, and some face long journies, Anderson conceded.
But he stated: “Next season that will change. I want to push on and get in the top six or seven. Training will be a priority next season.”
He played the same team and formation which did so well against Gorleston and for the first 15 or 20 minutes saw his side play brightly, with balls raining into the Godmanchester box.
“Three silly mistakes cost us the game,” admitted Anderson, lack of concentration probably another factor of a two-week lay-off.
“We still have four games to play. We have 28 points and could finish with 40.”
That is far better than last season when at this time of the campaign Fakenham had just eight points from 30 games.
On Saturday, Fakenham are at Team Bury and on Tuesday night they visit Stowmarket.
