AFTER his successful debut in the senior side in Zaragoza, Spain, Francis Baker was given the honour of team captain for the U23/U20 Combined Events International against France and Spain in Cardiff.

AFTER his successful debut in the senior side in Zaragoza, Spain, Francis Baker was given the honour of team captain for the U23/U20 Combined Events International against France and Spain in Cardiff.

Although competing against athletes with higher indoor personal best scores, Baker rose to the occasion with first day performances of 7.17sec in the 60m, and then made an improvement of 22cm to his pb in the long jump to record 7.32m. This was followed with a 12.03m shot. He finished the day with another pb with a 2.02m high jump which left him in first place.

On the second day he started with a 7.32 sec in the 60m hurdles followed with a pb in the pole vault of 4m 50 which kept him in first place going into the last event the 1,000m. After battling to keep in touch, he finally fell behind with two laps to go and had to be satisfied with silver.

His score of 5,490 was a massive personal best.
