A serious injury to the Seasiders' Craig Rutland forced an early end to Saturday's game. With no sign of an ambulance for an hour, the match official had no option but to call a halt.

Wells chairman Steve Finch later reported: “Craig has broken his fibia and badly dislocated his ankle, plus ligament damage.

“He had an operation on Monday to have the damage plated and pinned, and all at Wells Town FC and Sole Bay wish Craig a speedy recovery.”

Wells felt three points were a must against basement side Sole Bay, although the visitors had recently been losing only by the odd goal.

Sole Bay had the lion's share of possession but failed to cause Wells' defence any problems.

In the 44th minute Broughton scored his

first goal for Wells when he collected a perfect pass from Grocott and slotted the ball calmly past Matthews.

Wells started the second period full of confidence and pushed the visitors back in their search for further goals.

Wells Town host Wymondham Town on Saturday, ko 2.30pm.
